YOUR CHOICE FOR NE CALGARY DENTAL HYGIENE!

Pathways Dental Clinic offers NE Calgary dental hygiene services. We are committed to your overall oral health, and we stress the importance of cleanings and preventative care. Preventing problems before they arise is key to optimum oral health! This includes regular cleanings, as well as comprehensive examinations by our Dental Team.

Professional Cleanings (Scaling & Root Planing):

Our wonderful dental hygienists at Pathways Dental Clinic are here to provide cleanings and preventive care as well as deeper cleanings. The goal is to remove plaque, tartar (calculus), staining, and bacterial toxins (biofilms) from tooth surfaces above and below the gum line and help decrease any inflammation. They will provide polishing of teeth and the application of fluoride varnishes to aid in strengthening the enamel. A customized Calgary dental hygiene maintenance program will be formulated for each patient, and we will ensure that patients are educated on home care routines, including any specific areas of concern that might be improved by more involved preventative home care.

Comprehensive New Patient Examination

The dental exam is critical to your ongoing oral health, and only your dentist can perform this. It can catch problems early before you see or feel them when they are much easier and less expensive to treat. The exam consists, in part, of the dentist looking inside your mouth. Dr. Tony Kim and Dr. Derek Bouma will complete a thorough exam to evaluate your teeth, gums, existing restorations, and all other oral anatomy and structures of the head and neck. They will also address any overall aesthetic concerns you might have and look at the big picture. NE Calgary TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) evaluation, teeth alignment and occlusion (your “bite”), NE Calgary sleep apnea and oral cancer screenings are a few of the things they will look at during your examination.

Addressing any immediate needs is important, but Dr. Kim and Dr. Bouma will always aim to look long-term and assess any risks, benefits, and alternatives to any treatments, to ensure you get the most comprehensive care possible.

As a general rule, we recommend patients get regular dental check-ups every six months. However, some patients require more frequent exams (for example, some patients being treated for periodontal disease and other issues, may require to be seen more frequently). In contrast, other patients require less frequent exams. Your dentist and hygienist will work as a team to decide what is best for you, based on your specific circumstance.

Digital Radiographs (X-Rays) as part of your Comprehensive Examination

Digital Radiography is an important part of any comprehensive exam. It allows the dentists at Pathways Dental to make a proper diagnosis of your complete oral health, which includes tooth decay (cavities), as well as soft and hard tissue concerns such as bone loss. The digital X-ray also ensures patients are getting minimal radiation. The NE Calgary dentist will go over the x-rays with you to inform and educate you on the status of your oral health, and a comprehensive custom treatment plan will be developed that fits your specific needs.
